Lausanne 2010 – Excitement Is Building

Roy Peterson (Seed Company CEO) and his wife Rita are delegates to the Third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization in Cape Town, South Africa – happening now.

We’re asking hundreds of people to pray daily with the Petersons during the 10-day event. Will you join in this strategic prayer initiative by signing up here?

Roy with Doug Birdsall and his wife, Jeanie. Doug  is Executive Dir of Lausanne.

As the delegates begin to arrive here in beautiful Cape Town, excitement is building. Long check-in lines and a mixture of languages fill the streets, bringing a sense of vibrancy. Rita and I had dinner today with Vonette Bright and what a blessing it was! She and her late husband, Bill, co-founded Campus Crusade for Christ. Vonette shared that delegates will sing the Lord’s Prayer together in the opening worship time tomorrow! I can hardly write those words without being moved to tears. Just meeting our brothers and sisters from all over the world is stirring. There appears to be great anticipation for the outcomes of this diverse gathering.

On that note, we have heard the Chinese delegates were denied permission to leave the airport in China to attend Lausanne. Some have been arrested, others have had their paperwork confiscated, and some are under house arrest. If they are not able to join us, their passion and commitment will be greatly missed. Please pray that many delegates from China will somehow be able to attend.

There is a large emphasis on the table groups at this Congress. I will meet those who have been chosen to be at my table tomorrow. I hope we will be inspired as we unite around the theme of the Congress, and around our Savior the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thanks for coming with us on this great adventure through your prayers!

Praying with you and and Rita, and the Lausanne Congress to know the wisdom of God, and the power of His presence. Thank you for seeking to help God’s people live out the Gospel of peace. And thank you for having a passion and vision to see that all people groups in all nations hear of His goodness and salvation.

Reminds me of the scene in Jerusalem at Pentecost, just before the Holy Spirit came upon Jesus’ disciples (see Acts 2). Father, will you please pour out your Holy Spirit on the Lausanne delegates in power and wisdom to boldly advance the kingdom of your grace, bringing many from every tribe, tongue and nation into your family through abiding faith in Jesus Christ. AMEN!
