Too Many Bibles

Yesterday you might have taken our poll: How Many Bibles Are in Your Home? More than 50% said they have 6-10 Bibles!

Now imagine if we polled you on the exact titles of your Bibles, because few people these days carry around a book that’s simply called The Bible. We have so many versions … and so many colors, sizes, formats and materials. Yes, leather is the norm, but did you know that today you can reach the teen market with an NLT Metal Bible?

“Stylish, rugged, and sized right to take anywhere, these one-of-a-kind metal-encased editions of God’s Word will help steel young people for stainless living!”

As a writer, I can appreciate the clever description. And as a Christian, I can echo the Apostle Paul’s words: “The important thing is that in every way … Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice” (Philippians 1:18, NIV).

Friends, in every way, Christ ought to be preached. In many places, though, His name is not heard, not even in one color, size, format or material. Jesus said, “People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4, NLT).

Sometimes the Word comes by hearing. The first Christians didn’t have the New Testament, so they passed on Christ’s teachings by word of mouth. We’re not limited to print Bibles, in other words. But we are about—and we will always be about—giving people around the world access to God’s Word, in one way, shape or form. Maybe they’ll be blessed like we are and get it in many forms.
